Sometimes you can get lost starting a blog. Whether you start blogging for money and start blogging for fun you still need somewhere to start. Find out the important things you need to start blogging TODAY! #blog #blogging #blog #blogger #girlboss #sidehustle

I am still pretty new to the blogging world. I did a lot of research before I decided to jump in to make this thing work. I’m glad I did! If I didn’t I probably would have wasted a lot of money! I found out the important things you need to start blogging.

We all don’t like wasting our money or our time. I decided to write a quick post sharing what I think you should use to get started blogging. There were three things that I saw were consistent among what was being recommended from most bloggers.

Things you need to start blogging

#1. Picking a platform

I have used WordPress for a few different websites I have started over the years and find that it is very reliable. There are a few others out there but none can match WordPress when it comes to SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

#2. Domain and hosting

Bluehost all the way! I’m not just saying that because it’s what I use but what comes recommended by many bloggers. Plus you can get a free domain name for up to a year when you sign up.

They have a few different plans that can start at $3.95 a month up to $5.95 a month. Really the only way you get it that cheap is if you sign up for 36 months all at once. I’m not going to beat around the bush and say you will only be paying $3.95 a month like some people do to make it more appealing. I want to be honest and tell you the value you will get if you purchase 36 months of service will be that low price a month depending what plan you choose. All in all, it is marketing technique that doesn’t scare people off when they are planning to sign up.

I did pick the prime plan because after adding the extras that I know I needed to the basic plan it turns out it would have been more money than if I just got the prime plan.

The beauty of Bluehost is that it has an easy setup for WordPress. They walk you through the process and get you up and running so quickly!

Check it out!

#3. Picking a theme

I am a web designer and still fairly new in the coding world. I am not too familiar with PHP, which is what WordPress is built upon. My mindset when starting this blog was to build my own theme from scratch. After going through and fiddling with the code I realized I wanted to get my blog going faster than it was actually taking me. I’m a slow learner plus I have constant interruptions from my little one so it was proving difficult to develop something speedily. So, for the time being, I decided to purchase a theme to get me started.

I dug around for a while and in the end, I found X-Theme in Themeforest on the Envato Market. The reason I chose my current theme was that it came with easy and adjustable layout options. Plus it did come with many different templates.

I really hope this quick bit of information helps get you started with your blog. These things you need to start blogging helped me out tremendously. These are just the first steps in your new venture. Let me know if there is anything else you would like me to add or have discovered for yourselves.
