Getting started decluttering your home can be very overwhelming. You feel pulled in every direction and don’t know where to start. In the end, we just need some declutter motivation and a little push in the right direction.
Declutter Motivation
Just imagine clean surfaces, less junk and everything having a place. Shouldn’t that be enough motivation? I would think it should. Before starting, take a breather. Brainstorm the things that you love about a clean home and make a list. Are those things neatly arranged bins? Utensils displayed nicely in a jar on the counter? All the kids toys neatly arranged on shelves? Think about what inspires you to keep a tidy home or what you aspire your home to become.
Take a Picture
I always like doing this. Taking a before picture helps with my declutter motivation. I will look at this picture and get mad at the fact that I have an overwhelming amount of junk cluttering up my space. To me, it is enough motivation to start tackling the project to ensure it doesn’t keep happening (I’m not perfect so eventually everything piles back up).

My strategy is to find pictures of rooms that look organized and spotless and save them to an inspiration board. I know there is no way my home will stay picture perfect (I have a toddler) but I can try!

Dive Deep
I like to start on a troubled area in a high traffic room (like the kitchen or family room) and see if I can spruce it up as much as possible before investing money into organizational tools. After diving in deep in the one spot, I start to gain some more declutter motivation and want to tackle more areas of my home.
What do you think? Does this help you to get started to declutter? Tell me about it in the comments below.
