You know how life just whizzes right by and you sometimes don’t take the time to stop and count your blessings? I was thinking the other day about life and how far I have come. Then it hit me! I have never really shared my story and why I love the work at home life. Having a work at home job gives me so much freedom! Plus I love being a work at home mom to my little one.
First College Degree
Growing up, I was always told that I needed to go to college in order to have a decent career. So that’s what I did. I went to college for two years and earned my A.S in Music Production. I was excited at the possibilities!
The problem was it was 2008 and there were no jobs!
Second College Degree
So I worked a few jobs that led to nowhere and ended up going back to school to earn my Bachelors.
Woohoo!
I graduated with a Bachelors in Applied Science with a focus in Business Administration and Supervision. Now what?
I always daydreamed of different opportunities and the work from home life sounded so appealing. I did try out a few options that had “work-at-home” tendencies, but nothing seemed to pan out.
Another Job
My husband and I ended up traveling a bit for one job. It was independent claims adjusting. The number of hours I had to work was crazy sometimes. It definitely was not worth working long term and it was hard to quit because the money was so good but something had to give. It just made me want to work from home even more.
Web Development
I then discovered web development. I always liked playing around with different websites and do the “create your own” idea that they all portrayed, but they were never challenging enough. Plus, you could only do so much unless you paid for a subscription.
I decided to get a certificate in full-stack development so I could make something from scratch if I really wanted to. Now I have the skill set to do just that!
Probably about a month before classes started we found out I was pregnant.
We were overjoyed!
Married for almost six years, we finally were blessed with being parents. Once we started planning for the baby’s arrival, we quickly realized I needed to have an at home job… like yesterday!
Now there was more of a reason to make it a reality.
It was difficult finding an at-home position for web development as a junior developer. It was easy to pick up side work but it wasn’t consistent enough to make a good income.
Hurricane Irma
Then good old Hurricane Irma hit Florida!
I received a random email one day from an independent adjusting firm requesting at-home file reviewers for residential property claims. I thought to myself… bingo! This is what I need!
Since I am a licensed adjuster in the state of Florida I applied for this position immediately.
I got the job!
So here I am! Working from home!
Work at Home
Being able to work as a file reviewer has helped provide for my family. It also helps me have to time to blog. If I worked a typical 9-5 and then had to come home to tend to our child, make dinner and clean house, I really don’t see how I would make blogging work.
I’m thankful every day that I have this opportunity. My goal is to be able to make a full-time income from my blog one day. I’m happy to say that I am steadily getting there.
The Freedom
I love every second working from home! It has helped our lives so much. Working from home provides a different level of freedom. Even though my primary income is from another employer and not myself, working from home has been a huge blessing!
If you have any questions about the work at home life, blogging or even the file review position I have, please don’t hesitate to respond to this email.
I would love to share!
