When in a rush, I blow through my house like a tornado and forget to put things away. So when it comes to decluttering my home I tend to make a mess out of my original mess. Here we talk about how to declutter your home without making a mess. These tips have guided me to becoming organized during my declutter sessions.
Declutter Your Home Without Making a Mess
Right now, I have two rooms in my home that are an utter mess! One has basically become a storage room for all this unnecessary junk my husband and I have not had time to throw out/donate. The other is a room that we are converting from an office into a guest/music room. We are planning to start with the room that we are converting because it is less of a headache.
Start Your Piles
Each time I have started a decluttering mission I take out three/four boxes or start three to four piles to donate, keep, yard sale, and trash junk. Depending on the number of things I need to go through, piles seem to work best. This helps sooooooo much! I used to pull everything out of the room and then would start going through everything all at once. This made me stressed out and also created an issue if I had to stop to help my little one. Stuff would be everywhere!
Organize by Importance
Decluttering your home should not start by jumping from room to room. You will never complete decluttering if you are not focused on one room at a time. In my case, I know I have two rooms that really need to be tackled but I have prioritized by importance. The guest/music room can be a beneficial space for a guest if they are visiting and space where my husband can play all his instruments.
Ask Yourself Three Questions
The questions you see in the above image have proven to be extremely helpful to me while decluttering my home. Decluttering your home with these questions in mind will provide focus and also will be a guide when determining to throw an item away or donate.
An awesome challenge available is the Declutter My Life Challenge. This challenge focuses on your high traffic areas and also provides you with a FREE copy of the questions above as a downloadable printable.

I definitely need to learn this. I am really good at making a much bigger mess when I am decluttering a space. My kids are older so its easier to get away with it. 🙂
I hope when I have older kids I can get away with it too. 🙂
