Decorating makes you feel good for a numerous amount of reasons. Not only do you to display your taste, you can feel good about showing off your space.
I have been struggling to get my home in order for the past year. We moved here in September 2016 and everything was put on hold for a better part of living here since we were waiting for the arrival of our baby boy. Not to mention, both of us were having trouble making a decent paycheck so anything we did bring in went to bills and not to home modifications.
I feel your pain if you are having trouble making your home feel like a home. We have been living with hammy down furniture, paint on the walls from the previous owner, and boxes that have still not been unpacked for way too long. It’s time we took action and started making it our own.
So we set a date to get some major things accomplished.
We painted, got a few pieces of furniture that would go with each space, and started decorating.
Decorating
Now, decorating I thought would come easily to me since I just love scrolling through Pinterest for ideas. It’s simple to make boards and save what you love. Implementing is a whole other story, especially if you are on a budget.
It took a while but we finally got our main living room put together the way we like it. I have one piece of furniture I am waiting to come in, so once that has arrived I’ll post a picture for you to see. I am very excited for it!
Decorating, as a whole, turned out to be a huge feat. The stress of my house being turned upside down for a few weeks was a little overwhelming. Overall it was worth it.
Sense of Accomplishment
Do you love the feeling of accomplishment? I can’t relay enough how great I felt after everything was done. We couldn’t help but marvel at our updated space. The burden of living out of boxes and looking at old paint was behind us. I still look at everything and smile knowing that our home is almost completely set up the way we planned.
Sense of Style
In my day job, I get to work from home. I’m a file reviewer for an independent adjusting firm. This is an amazing opportunity and it lets me be able to take care of my baby without putting him in daycare. In this job, I have to review photos of homes that have damage from various losses (pipe burst, high winds, appliance malfunction, etc.). I get to see everyone’s sense of style. Let me say that a lot of people do not get the opportunity to decorate or they haven’t updated in years.
So I am happy that I get to show off my sense of style. It makes me feel good. Plus, I get to enjoy it every day by being home.
Peace and Serenity
Ever finish a project and have a sense of calm after it is complete? We could get into the science of endorphins, but I think keeping this post a little more simple would be more relatable.
That’s exactly how I felt when I was done decorating. I felt calm and comfortable in my newly updated space. I look at our accomplishment and usually let out a sigh of relief knowing it is all done. We can enjoy our hard work.
It’s All in the Details
There are a couple details that I love to show off from my decorations. The ones that I love the most are wall art.
Last Father’s Day I purchased a print from The Night Sky. It is a constellation map of the area you choose. You can read about it more in detail from my A Unique Gift for that Special Person in Your Life post.
I love the simplicity of the design.
There you have it! These are all the reasons decorating can make you feel good. Let me know if you have experienced any additional reasons it can make you feel good.
Until then!
