One thing that I constantly had on my mind while I was pregnant was putting together my baby’s nursery. My husband and I would worry that I couldn’t afford the items needed. We then thought about ways to put together a cheap nursery on a budget.
I was very excited! Especially when scrolling through Pinterest and trying to get ideas of how I would like it to look. It can seem weird but sometimes I would pretend that everything was already laid out and I was waking up every morning to this beautiful child whom I could call my own. As the time approached it became a daunting task to get his room together. Currently, my husband and I are on a very tight budget. So buying furniture was not an option. We had to improvise in order to make his nursery a success.
These are some of the things we had to do in order to make sure we stayed in budget.
How to Put Together a Cheap Nursery on a Budget:
#1. Baby Registry
You would be surprised what people will buy you from your registry. Bedding, wall decor, and the crib mobile were the items that I was hoping would be gifted to us. Luckily, we were able to get a few items on his baby registry to decorate his room and the big, expensive items were the only things left. The bedding we received is from Babies R Us.
#2. Ask around for furniture
We would ask around to see if anyone was giving away furniture. Luckily, Jeremy’s parents were giving away an old armoire and nightstand. Score! On top of that, a friend of ours from church was giving away an old crib. Double score! If you don’t like the colors of these items you can always paint them to match your theme.
#3. Ask around for paint
You may not be too surprised that people tend to have extra buckets of paint lying around. We were fortunate to have his room already painted a neutral color. So when it came time to figure out an accent wall color “white” seemed to be the easiest option.
#4. Budget for additional decor
Set a budget and do not veer off. Having a budget for the nursery was a priority, especially since the only big thing we needed to purchase that we couldn’t find for free was a decent area rug. After doing some digging at a few discount places we finally found one that was a close match to what we were looking for. WooHoo! $20 well spent!
Now you are ready!
Voilá! Here are some more pictures of our budget-friendly nursery. Pardon some of the angles of these photos. His room is very small and it is hard to get a good picture of everything at once.
Hopefully, this can help with your own quest to put together a cheap nursery.
Let me know how you did it in the comments below. I would love to hear if you found some other cheap options.
