Homemaking was one of those subjects I never really understood when I was younger. I just thought it meant mom stayed at home and cleaned all day. Little did I know that being a homemaker involves a lot more than just cleaning. Today we dive into what makes the homemaker mindset.
Homemaking Mindset
Now that I am a homemaker my mindset has totally changed since I was younger. My understanding of my role has definitely expanded. Being a homemaker involves a lot of dedication and perseverance.
It also involves one thing people tend to forget, that is homemaking takes a lot of organization.
Organization
When taking care of a family it is your responsibility to make sure they have their packed lunches, making it to school on time, coordinating schedules, planning family trips, or making sure dad is able to have quality time. This is a ton of organization.
On top of it all, you have to make sure your home doesn’t get turned upside down on a daily basis. Picking up after children and even your husband can be a full-time job in itself. Making sure you have a great system in place to ease the pain of maintaining a home is incredibly beneficial.
In my experience, if you have a way to keep track of your goals, daily schedule, meals, and chores you will stay pretty organized.
Dedication
Dedication is a big contribution when maintaining the homemaking mindset. You have to make sure you focus and execute all your responsibilities as a homemaker. In the past, I wasn’t fully committed to making sure my home was fully “functional” as some may call it. What I mean by “functional” is that it wasn’t a well-oiled machine to where most of what I needed to accomplish in a day was on autopilot. I had no systems in place and had no clue where to start.
One day when everything felt overwhelming and my world felt out of control, I took a step back to analyze my situation. I figured out my pain points and what was causing them. Most of the issues revolved around time management.
I now have a new understanding. My mind has been rejuvenated and my dedication to making my home more functional is blossoming. By no means is my system perfect, but I now can say my mindset has improved.
Perseverance
Oh boy. When the going gets tough I can’t tell you how many times I want to quit and walk out the door.
A few months ago I was having a really bad week. We were throwing my son a birthday party and we wanted to make sure the house was in order before guests would arrive. So I tried to make a schedule for myself so my daily chores, goals, and meals were all planned out. I also made sure my husband was clued in on what needed to be done so he could help. There was so much on my plate.
Needless to say, I was very overwhelmed. I wanted everything to be perfect before guests would arrive. After an afternoon whizzing around to make sure everything was in order I finally was able to sit down on the couch and take a break. I went down my list and realized I had completed the majority of what needed to be in record time! Woohoo! I persevered even though it seemed impossible. I maintained the mindset and accomplished my goals.

When I finally figured out a system to make my home functional, I created templates that I print off on a weekly basis. These templates include setting goals, a daily planner, meal planning, and chores. They ease the pain of keeping track of everything in my head. I am more of a visual person and love to write down what I need to do. These printables are perfect for maintaining my household to-dos.
In the related links below, I write about each of the topics these printables cover. Please check them out to find out how you can get a free copy!
